What is MACS?
MACS or Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting is a laboratory technique for removing sperm cells with lower fertility potential (those with damaged/fragmented DNA) and selection of those with a higher chance for fertilization.

An essential peculiarity about this technique is that usually the DNA fragmented sperm cells possess normal morphology and motility and could not be identified and removed with the classic methods for preliminary semen treatment. This fact provoked the search of techniques for extracting this sperm cells from the ejaculate, as the ultimate goal is increasing the sperm quality for ART.

MACS has been applied in Dr. Shterev Hospital since 2010. According to the results, it has been successfully implemented in 30% of the infertility couples, leading to pregnancy after one or more unsuccessful ART procedures.
