In recent years, there was a significant increase in interest in improving the business of assisted reproductive technology. This gives hope to many couples for successful sterile treatment. In this process, the emotional state of the patient should be noted in parallel with the leading medical or biological part of the treatment.

Sometimes achieving the desired pregnancy and renewing proper treatment are bothered by a specific emotional burden on both partners.

Dr. Shterev Hospital offers consultations with a psychologist (emotional counsellor) and participating in a group for emotional skills.

Integrated care also includes emotional support

Individual consultations and participation in the emotional support group at Dr. Shterev Hospital are for patients and couples who are undergoing or are currently undergoing a procedure related to assisted reproductive techniques. The task of our psychologists Katya Hristova and Martina Stoyanova is to "teach" our patients strategies for coping with stress and overcoming life crises, to help them become aware of problems and to solve them, and to help realize the dreams of dozens of families.

The sources of patient support are usually family and friends, and these are the people who are closest to the patient and may even be part of the problem. But besides them, the psychologist is a specialist who can provide emotional support to the patient in a confidential setting. Very often, the patient becomes aware of the need to consult an emotional counsellor only when internal imbalances begin to interfere with his or her daily activities. The answer to the question of when to seek help from a psychologist is individual. The specialist in reproductive medicine that leads the treatment is the doctor, who may also recommend consulting a psychologist when needed.

We present to you the opinions of our emotional counsellors, Katya Hristova and Martina Stoyanova, on the role of their support in the course of treatment:

"The choices we make, define us as individuals. We all have our fears and hopes, and we face everyday opportunities and challenges. Coaching is an effective method for developing each person's potential to deal with the problem. In conversations with the emotional counsellor and through coaching, patients become aware of themselves, their own emotions, patterns of thinking and behavior; reveal internal barriers that prevent it from moving forward. Together with the emotional counsellor, mechanisms will be put in place to eliminate these obstacles and strategies that will help change come more quickly and permanently. And something more - skills and coping skills will be developed that will support the achievement of personal goals and the future.” (Katya Hristova, psychologist)
