Since September 12, 2012, Dr. Shterev Hospital has been accredited for the practical training (pre-diploma internship) of medical and health care students, as well as for the postgraduate training of doctors in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After an external evaluation and protection before the Accreditation Committee of the medical establishments in 2017, Dr. Shterev Hospital was accredited with a grade of “excellent” by the Ministry of Health for a new term of 5 years.

Doctors who wish to acquire a specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology or to upgrade their qualifications can now do it in our hospital. The midwives will also have the opportunity to conduct their teaching practice and pre-graduate training at the hospital.
Dr. Shterev Hospital signed contracts with medical universities to cooperate with. The goal is to expand the range of partnerships with these institutions gradually.

The accreditation for training provides an opportunity for many physicians, postgraduates and healthcare professionals to be trained in obstetrics, gynaecology and assisted reproductive techniques.

EBCOG Accreditation

 
Dr. Shterev Hospital became the first privately owned hospital in Europe and the only Bulgarian hospital accredited by the largest and most prestigious specialized European organization EBCOG (European Board of the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology). Our hospital has received an excellent rating for a maximum period of 4 years with the right to train obstetricians and gynaecologists from all over Europe. EBCOG's high assessment and certification is a mandatory step in the process of obtaining ESHRE (European Association for Assisted Reproduction and Human Embryology) accreditation for reproductive medicine.

The EBCOG accreditation’s goal is to improve and guarantee the high quality of specialized obstetrics and gynecology training in Europe and to harmonize it with the countries of the European Union.

After one year of preparation of our team on July 19, 2013, Dr. Shterev Hospital was visited by the Accreditation Committee, headed by Prof. Yuri Vladimiroff, Chairman of the Accreditation Committee, Dr. Tahir Mahmud, President-elect of EBCOG, and Anna Aabake, Secretary-General of ENTOG (European Organization of Obstetricians and Gynecologists). All aspects of the training process, conditions, equipment and facilities, organization of work and training at our hospital, as well as team research, were extensively discussed.

During the visitation of the Accreditation Committee, special attention was paid to the program of Dr. Shterev Hospital for the training of obstetricians and gynaecologists, by their age, the personal files of the specialists covering the level of knowledge and competence. A big number of performed procedures were examined in detail under the supervision of the teaching physician and independently, the organization of the training process, the level of assimilation and assessment of theoretical and practical knowledge, the research activity in which the midwifery specialists and gynaecology are involved.

During the visit, meetings were held with the management of the hospital, as well as with specialists who are directly related to the process of training in obstetrics and gynaecology - heads of trainees, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, neonatologists. Special attention and time were given to obstetricians and gynaecologists at the hospital, who shared their point of view regarding the opportunities and conditions offered by the hospital for conducting obstetrics and gynaecology training.

At the end of the visit, the committee shared its impressions of the visit, the high level of technology at the hospital, the good training of the specialists and the completeness of the training program for the trainees. Following a positive report by the Accreditation Committee and a meeting at the end of August of the EBCOG Governing Board to consider the application, it was decided that Dr. Shterev Hospital would receive an excellent evaluation and be successfully accredited. In 2017, the facility underwent a new evaluation process to extend the accreditation period by a further four years.

The awarding of this accreditation for the training of obstetricians and gynaecologists by EBCOG is yet another proof of the high level of medical care, experience and professionalism of the team and the conditions for training of the specialists that Dr. Shterev Hospital offers.
