Conization (LEEP)
What is LEEP conization?
LEEP conization is a surgical intervention for removing a cone-shaped part of the cervix. The long lower part of the cone forms a circle around the cervical canal, and the upper part is approximately at the level of the middle of the canal. LEEP conization is an alternative of the classic conization. The procedure is also known as LLETZ (Large Loop Excision of the Transformation zone) or just LEEP (Loop Electrical Excision Procedure).
How do we perform it?
We perform LEEP conization under full short-term anesthesia, and the access is through the vagina. The specialist uses an electrically charged metal. The disadvantage of the method is that it cannot remove bigger parts of tissues.
When is it required?
pathological results after colposcopy including biopsy and histology testing
pathological results after cervix curettage and histology testing
What are the advantages of LEEP compared to the standard conization?
faster recovery
less cervical trauma (a suitable method for women who haven’t give birth yet)
What is the minimum hospital stay?
One day
What is the recovery period?
The recovery after LEEP is different for every patient, but it is administered by the medical specialist and depends on the histology testing result.
