The last few decades of successes in ART brought to Dr. Shterev Hospital and its team of medical experts, embryologists and biologists these innovations:

- First IVF baby born in Bulgaria - 1988. The procedure was performed by Prof. Atanas Shterev and the biologist Prof. Iliya Vatev.

- The first application of ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) in Bulgaria is in 1996. The procedure was performed by Prof. Atanas Shterev and embryologist Dimitar Barod. First ICSI baby born in Bulgaria in 1997.

- The first application of PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration) for collection semen from the epididymal depot was performed in 1998.

- The first successful application of the FISH method for genetic assessment of sperm cells - 2000.

- Blastomere biopsy and PGD through FISH (preimplantation genetic diagnosis) - 2000.

- The first successful implementation of Assisted Hatching - 2000.

- Successful fertilization of oocytes with immature sperm cells (spermatids) - 2003.

- The first successful pregnancy from embryos frozen through vitrification - 2003.

- Successful implementation of IVF maturation to immature oocytes - 2004.
