Panorama - Non-invasive Prenatal Testing

What is Panorama?

Panorama is a prenatal test for chromosomal abnormalities without any risk for the pregnancy, because it uses a standard probe of the mother's blood, containing cell-free DNA (cfDNA) of the baby. The technology of Panorama, based on DNA analysis, detects up to 99% the presence of some fetal genetic abnormalities. The test identifies up to 99.9% of the pregnancies with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome), up to 96.4% of the pregnancies with Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome), and up to 99.9% of the pregnancies with Trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome). The false positive results in Panorama testing are less than 0.1%.

For whom is Panorama recommended?

Panorama is suitable for every pregnant woman but is particularly recommended for women older than 35, and with ultrasound detection of chromosomal abnormalities during the first-trimester screening test. The test is used in patients with trisomy in a previous pregnancy, and to prior miscarriages.

The test is not applicable in these cases:
The test is not appropriate in cases of multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.). It is not suitable in cases of pregnancy with oocyte donation. It cannot be performed when the mother has undergone a bone marrow transplantation. We will not recommend it in cases of a blood-related relationship between the parents, for example, cousins.

When and how do we perform Panorama?

The test can be performed after the 9th or 10th gestational week, and the blood sample is collected in Dr. Shterev Hospital. Then we send it for analysis in Natera laboratory. The results come back in 10 to 14 working days, and if necessary, they include consultation with fetal medicine or genetic specialist.
